This study aims, from the folk linguistics proposal (PAVEAU, 2018), to analyze Rubens do Amaral’s text, published in 1939, in which the author anticipates by half a century the criticism in relation to the confusion between language teaching and grammar teaching, presenting guidelines of the new teaching paradigm based on the use-reflection-use principle woven in the 1980s by Linguistics.
